British philosopher Mary Midgley is a retired professor of philosophy at the University of Newcastle. She is author of, among others: Can't We Make Moral Judgments? (St. Martin's Press, 1991); Heart and Mind: The Varieties of Moral Experience (St. Martin's Press, 1981); and Beast and Man: The Roots of Human Nature (Cornell University Press, 1978).
